It’s no secret that the northern Italy lake region is one of the most beautiful places in the world.  This is why it attracts travelers far and wide, including the rich and famous.

Unbeknownst to much of the golf population in North America, the Italian Lake region, consisting of Lakes Maggiore, Como and Garda, is also home to some of the best golf courses in Italy and Europe.

With this in mind, we thought we’d offer some suggestions for a fabulous golf trip to this beautiful region.

Italy golf trips

Northern Italy

Lake Como is located north of Milan and is about a 45 minute drive from Milan Malpensa Airport and an hour drive from downtown Milan.

Therefore, an Italian Lake golf journey should begin with a stay in Milan to enjoy all that great city has to offer.

From there, you’ll journey east to Lake Garda, where you will play your first round of golf at Arzaga Golf Club.  This facility offers 27 holes, and the primary 18 holes were designed by Jack Nicklaus, Jr.

After the round, you can check in at your nearby hotel then enjoy the rest of the afternoon in one of the nearby villages along Lake Garda.

Malcesine Castle

The next day, you can enjoy a guided tour in Verona of Romeo and Juliet fame (along with the Arena), or head up to Malcesine along the east side of Lake Garda to explore Malcesine Castle.

The next day, you will enjoy a round of golf at GardaGolf Country Club, another property that offers 27 beautifully maintained holes.

After the round, you’ll drive west to Lake Como.  In the morning, you’ll head out for a round at Villa D’Este, one of the best courses in all of Italy and Europe.

After the round, you’ll head up to Bellagio to explore one of the most beautiful small towns in all of Italy.

The next day, you’ll drive along the west side of Lake Como with beautiful panoramic views and head up to Menaggio Golf Club to enjoy your next round.

You can then spend the afternoon strolling around the beautiful town of Menaggio before heading back to the hotel in Como.

Next, you’ll head over toward Lake Menaggio for a round of golf at Castelconturbia, following which you’ll check into the hotel in Stresa along the western shoreline of Lake Maggiore.

The next morning you can enjoy a round of golf at Des Iles Borromees before heading back up to Stresa for a guided tour of the islands of Lake Maggiore.

Villa D'este

This will be your last full day on this Northern Italy Lakes Golf Journey!  Tomorrow after breakfast you will check out and head to the Milan Malpensa Airport to fly home.

To fit in as many sightseeing opportunities as possible, we recommend at least a ten-day tour.  There are a few other fabulous golf courses in this region to play as well if you want to fit in more golf.

Quite frankly, there is no other golf experience on the planet that would be similar to this tour.

The best time of year to embark on this journey is from about late May through mid-September.

The average high temperature is just below 70 degrees in mid-May and stays above 70 for most of September.

The average high during the hottest week of the summer (late July) is just 81 degrees, so the weather during the summer is virtually perfect for golf.
