The Piedmont region is widely considered to be the best region in Italy for golf.
Among the top golf courses in Italy, Piedmont has the most golf courses, with four of the top ten. Given its proximity to the rest of Europe, and considering the wealth in the region, this is not a surprise.
The Piedmont region is also no slouch when it comes to sight seeing in Italy. Turin, the capital of the region, is perhaps the most underrated city in all of Italy.
Our partners in Italy have put together some great ideas for a trip for golf enthusiasts to this region.
You’ll want to fly into Milan Malpensa airport, where you’ll be greeted with a transfer to your hotel in Turin, which is a little over 90 minutes to the southwest.
We always recommend taking a couple days to enjoy your surroundings, so after your arrival, you’ll have time to relax, and then head out in the late afternoon and evening to browse and enjoy dinner.
The next day, if you so choose, you can enjoy a guided tour of the city and then take the rest of the day to browse on your own.
You’ll then begin your golf journey with a round at Royal Park I Roveri, often considered to be the best golf course in Italy. This is followed up by a visit to a few fascinating museums in Turin… the Egyptian Museum, the Museo dell’Auto and then to the Centro Storico Fiat.
Your next round will be played at Biella Le Betulle, another top notch course in this region. This course is located almost an hour to the of Turin, and the area is known for its production of cashmere. You can take the time to visit one of the nearby factories.
Piedmont is another Italian region known for its wine and you can have the opportunity to take a guided wine tour through the region if you choose.
Before leaving Turin, you will enjoy another round of golf closer to town at Torino La Mandria, home course of 2018 Open Championship winner, Francesco Molinari.
Next, you will head up to the town of Stresa on the west side of Lake Maggiore. Along the way, you can enjoy a round of golf at the Golf Club Des Iles Borromees at the recommendation of our partners in Italy.
The next day you can enjoy a guided tour of the enchanting Borromean islands on Lake Maggiore… Isola Bella, Isola Madre and Isola dei Pescatori. You’ll finish the day with a fabulous meal and your hand picked hotel.
Your last round of golf will be at the magnificent Castelconturbia Golf Club, a 40 minute drive to the south of Stresa. After golf, you can enjoy the rest of your day on your own, before departing to the airport in Milan the next day.
The best time to visit this region for golf starts around mid-May and extends into late September. While it is definitely possible to play golf in April and October in Piedmont, there can be some chilly weather at those times of the year.
